I like to say I enjoy making people uncomfortable
In my practice I play with my life as a concept that moves between the inside and outside of the work, myself becoming the object of intimacy for the viewer. I wonder, do we exist on our own, or through the construction in the eyes of the other? Most times I find a sense of urgency to endeavor with an invisible character. There seems to be someone who hides in the work but can’t be seen. It is addressed to a someone, and it acts as a protagonist. We can never know whom it is or if it exists. Perhaps there is no one and it’s simply an illusion that as the artist I create around myself. I’m interested in exploring the rejection of ownership of me, and whoever ventures into the work has the power over my actions through interpretation. There should be enough freedom for the viewer to occupy a metaphysical space.

This project came to life after being confined to “the house” as the center of all things. In my previous home, my neighbors where only separated by a narrow a street, both of our apartments had huge windows and we let the curtains open. I could look directly into a couple’s kitchen; a girl playing video games and a guy playing guitar. It felt as if I knew them, after months of observing, I wondered if they were happy together, wondered if they asked about me in return. The relationship between viewer and performer fascinates me, I want to question the limits of privacy and intimacy, something that is lacking in our modern world. The performers will play me (girls with long brown hair), while I look. Who is who? We are playing inside this house. As more often than not, I have the unbearable need to live as characters following a script, perhaps to liberate myself from the burden of my own life.
